Camp Knives
Generally measuring 5 to 7 inches, this is the blade I prefer to carry at all times in a rustic finish (See blade finishes for description). These blade designs are made to be able to do all of your outdoor wood processing while still being balanced enough to skin the smallest of game. These knives are substantial in hand using 1/4inch thick 5160 high carbon spring steel for increased chopping ability and some corrosive resistance due to the nickel found in the steel stock. I recommend having the blade gun blued for increase corrosion resistance. I make sure that each camp knife spine has plenty of 90degrees angels to ensure the high carbon steel provides spark for your fire starting and the knife will more easily baton through logs to the dry wood. These knives come standard with flat grind leading into a convex edge. . I craft each knife with a drop point and use a belly forward design with and “in blade” finger groove which allows for maximum balance and dexterity during the most delicate of hunting tasks.
CAMP: Hand finished to a 600grit; no hammer marks (unless requested); gun blued upon request for a grey to black matte finish (to help with corrosion).
ALL KNIVES COME STANDARD WITH MICARTA, DIAMOND WOOD OR G10 HANDLES,BRASS OR STAINLESS PINS AND A LANYARD HOLE
The Ducks Unlimited “Black Bear” Camp Knife
Measuring 10.25” with a blade length of 5.75”, the Bear was made specifically High Country camping in mind. Large enough to defend, process wood or prepare food, this knife will give confidence to its user during chopping duties with its blade-forward balance. It has also been given an unsharpened in-blade finger- groove for added control and “choking up” during field dressing and more intricate tasks. The handle, which is made of deep Burled Walnut, has been given a contoured pistol grip configuration to decrease fatigue of its user. The Black Bear has been forged with a .25” thick spine out of 5160 High Carbon steel for increased durability, giving it a substantial feel in-hand. The forging hammer marks have been left proudly down the bevel line of the blade to highlight the handcrafted love that was put into its creation.
“This blade was made in loving memory of Doc Hardin. I thank Doc and his wife who gave me my first hunting opportunity on their land in Conifer. Their gift helped bring me closer to nature, here in Colorado, inspiring my artistry and encouraging my blade-smithing’s evolution…"
